This shirt, apart from being a rather beautiful thing, is notable for its colour combinations. Blue with brown is classically thought to be 'dissonant'. We have a primary
- blue & the true, or painter's tertiary
- brown, which results from an equal mix of the three primaries. These colours are a long way from each other on the colour wheel & so we think of them as dissonant. But, it a rather lovely dissonance even so. The fish are painted simply, but carefully with subtle gradations of tone & strong, confident lines. But we also have a crustacean or two for company! The ground is a pale blue & there is an intriguing kind of visual push-pull of earthy & aqueous tones. The effect is rather expansive & serene. ' Jagger' single button cuff.
