Another dive into the rich world of early twentieth century cigarette cards. This time a set from John Player and Sons called 'Aviary and Cage Birds', created in 1933. A number of species are beautifully illustrated with rich, vivid colours, having that slight earthiness to them which was characteristic of the time, and painted with wonderful observation. Mini masterpieces really. Swinson's lorikeet, crested cockatoo, red and blue macaw, zebra finch, black-headed Gouldian finch, rosy faced love bird, and more.
