Pyrus communis ' Humbug' (syn. ' Pysanka')
This very unusual green, yellow & pink striped pear offers something very special for the garden. In its native country (the Ukraine) it is known as the ‘ Easter Pear’ as it is traditionally stored through winter & paraded as a table decoration before eating at Easter time to celebrate the onset of spring. The fruits can be used for dessert & culinary purposes. It has a sweet & juicy texture despite its thick skin. The tree has good disease resistance & even the young shoots appear striped during the winter.
