Complete first four series' of the classic British television wartime sitcom, about a group of misfit soldiers in the entertainment division of the British Army in Burma during the Second World War, led by the irascible Sergeant Major Williams (Windsor Davies). The show's weekly capers knew no bounds of taste or racial sensitivity by today's standards & the Indian 'punkawallah' boys (one of them played by a white British actor in blackface) who catered to the army's every need are given short shrift at every opportunity. The show had caricatures covering every popular sitcom stereotype of the day
- the effeminate man, the bully, the Scotsman & the visible minority, though Chinese cook Ah Syn rounded that up to two. Every character had his own catchphrase, some of which could not even be printed in these days of political correctness!
