Includes:: both a small & large mask with the main unit. About 1% of domestic cats suffer from feline asthma. The disease may be more widespread given that the symptoms are often confused with hair balls. Traditional medications to treat feline asthma have included systemic delivery (pill or syrup) of potent cortiscosteroids which may have significant side-effects for your cat. These side-effects may include pancreatitis, insulin resistance (diabetes), polyuria, cystitis, inappropriate urination & behavioural changes. Aerosol medications delivered by metered dose inhalers have been used to treat human respiratory conditions since the 1960s. Replacing long-term systemically delivered oral steroids (pills & syrups), aerosols have become the standard of care around the world for humans & to a large extent horses. These medications (corticosteroids & bronchodilators) can now be delivered effectively to domestic cats by inhalation. Feline asthma mimics the human form of asthma & responds well to the pharmacological agents used with humans. However, because typical inhalers propel a dose at speeds of over 60 miles per hour (100 Kph)3, effective delivery of the medications to domestic cats without a delivery system is extremely difficult. The Aero Kat* FAC is a system that aids the formation of an aerosol cloud & helps to separate the large particles from the small (breathable) particles in the metered dose. Inhalation through the Aero Kat* FAC facilitates aerosol delivery to the lungs. Initial experience indicates that the cat willingly takes the chamber in most cases.
