Peugeot 309 Mk II GTi in Cherry Red (1:43 scale)
- Project C28, as the 309 was known during its development, started out as a saloon version of the 205, but by the time it was launched in 1985 it had morphed into a hatchback 330mm longer & just 72kg heavier than the 205. It retained the smaller car’s door pressings to save tooling costs & the GTI version modelled here also shared its Type XU single overhead cam engine with the 205 GTI.
The 309 GTI was launched in February 1987 & soon became a cult car amongst enthusiasts, combining the 205’s famous handling prowess & performance with an interior large enough to be used by a family.
