H-IIA Rocket with Launch Pad (1:400 scale)
- Dragon is launching onto the market another 1/400 scale model in its ever expanding Space Collection. The new item is the H-IIA, an expendable space rocket from Japan that has been employed to launch satellites into geostationary orbit, launch lunar orbiting spacecraft, & even send an interplanetary space probe to Venus. Although once operated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), after privatization the 53m-long H-IIA rocket system is now operated by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from the Tanegashima Space Center on an island 115km south of Kyushu. The H-IIA is a two-stage rocket, but modules can be added on according to the mission & payload. The first H-IIA launch took place in August 2001, & 17 out of 18 launches thus far have been successful. The 1/400 scale model is beautifully recreated in miniature. As Dragon has never made a model of this type of rocket before, every detail has been newly tooled from scratch. The fully finished model is accurately painted & it carries suitable markings & livery. The H-IIA rocket is made even more spectacular by the inclusion of its associated mobile launch pad.
