The Quinta da Bacalhôa estate is 15th-century country estate, formerly owned by the Portuguese royal family & known as Vila Fresca. The estate only turned to commercial wine production in the 1970s, & is now one of Portugal's largest producers. An unusual iberian take on claret, this offers a lush palate of warm bramble fruit & woody, nutty tannins, & heady aromas of fresh tobacco leaf & sandalwood. A terrific roast beef wine, which will also go well with mature hard cheeses.
