Business Essentials Caustic
Soda

Caustic soda is a highly
corrosive chemical
traditionally used for
unblocking drains,
sanitising urinals and
cleaning basins and
sinks. It is extremely
cheap and very
effective.Handling
Caustic SodaThis powerful
chemical cleaner and
steriliser should only be
used by trained
operatives wearing the
correct protective
clothing, as it can
cause severe burns.
Suitable clothing
includes thick rubber
gloves and protection for
the eyes and face.Using
Caustic SodaCaustic Soda
is the chemical Sodium
Hydroxide in a solid
granular form which
dissolves in water. It
should always be added
slowly to water, never
add water to caustic
soda. A 500g pack makes 5
litres for clearing
blocked drains. It can
also be poured onto an
oil stain on concrete.
Scrub with a brush,
leave for 30 minutes then
rinse away with cold
water.Storing Caustic
SodaCaustic Soda should
be kept in a cool dry
place, locked and out of
reach of children. It
must always be stored in
its original packaging
and never be transferred
to another package. The
original pack has a
child-resistant lid and
also contains information
for medical staff in the
event of accidents.
