Luxury Croquet Mallet Jaques' Hampton mallet was the first of the square mallets, developed by the Company to make ‘through the hoop’ shots easier to play due to the narrower diameter of the mallet. It is a little lighter than the brass ringed models, & has the advantage of making controlled shots easier to perform. 50 years ago we made all mallets with round heads, & the first mallet with a flat bottom was actually otherwise round. The flat bottom of the Hampton, the first square mallet, allows standing of the mallet upright when not in play; a definite convenience. The flat bottom also helps make it feel easier to strike the ball correctly, & the slightly narrower, square shape allows hoop shots (those where the hoop interferes with the playing of the shot) to be played more readily. The mallet head is crafted from premium grade Rockwood, a superb mallet timber, & the handle from finest top quality straight grain hickory & fitted with a soft-feel Takair grip. The mallet ends are scored with grooved faces to help give ‘stop’or ‘follow through’ to the ball, & the mallet weighs a little less than 3lb. A very popular mallet among the croquet cognoscenti.
