Tulips were originally a hobby for the extremely rich, they became the ultimate symbol of prosperity & wealth. In the 17th century " Tulipomania" took hold of Holland & a single bulb would sometimes be sold for the price one would pay for a house! Centuries later the tulip is still well loved & there are so many different forms. Although all are perfect for borders & containers & make excellent cut flowers. Prefers well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Ballerina has been given the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the RHS for outstanding performance in the garden. It is a lily flowered tulip with scented soft orange petals.
