Thyme Old English Winter is a delicately aromatic herb & is an essential flavouring for roasted meats stews & sauces. It is ideal herb for rockeries & has pink flowers that catch the attention of bees visiting your garden!
Sow March to April in pots or trays on the surface of barely moist seed compost & cover with a sprinkling of finely sieved compost. Place in a propagator at 15-20C until germination which takes up to 24 days. Transplant seedlings into small pots or cells until they are large enough to plant outdoors. Plant in well prepared soil in full sun once any frost risk has passed 25cm apart. Height is to 30cm but should usually be kept well trimmed to allow new growth. Harvest from July onwards. Thyme is winter hardy but is best picked young. Plants should survive for several years if trimmed to keep their shape.
