Pot up rose plug plants & grow them on in bright frost-free conditions until they are fully rooted into their pots. When rose plants are well grown acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days prior to planting out in their final positions in window boxes baskets & containers. Roses enjoy a rich fertile well drained soil. Mix a small handful of granular fertiliser to the compost prior to planting.
Feed & water rose plants regularly & deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant below the graft union. Miniature roses are generally grown as annuals & replaced from year to year. However they are perfectly hardy & may be left in containers for the following years display if required. In winter begin pruning miniature roses by removing dead & diseased wood & any rubbing or damaged branches. Then remove any twiggy growth & lightly shape the remaining stems. Apply a top dressing of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.

Grow tree peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position that is sheltered from cold winds & shaded from strong early morning sunlight. They prefer a well drained rich fertile soil. This is best achieved by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or compost to the soil prior to planting ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly & deeply. Plant tree peonies so that the grafted union sits at least 10cm below the soil surface. Shallow planting may hinder establishment & delay flowering.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Prune tree peonies in spring whilst dormant removing crossing & damaged stems to create a healthy open framework. After pruning apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
