Blueberries require a well drained acid soil in a sunny or semi shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur grow blueberry plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost & soil based compost.
If possible blueberries should be watered with rainwater because the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Blueberries will begin to produce fruit in their third year. As fruits begin to develop cover the plants with netting to protect the berries from birds. From their third year begin to prune out the oldest stems each autumn to promote new growth & maintain a healthy plant framework. Culinary note: the fruit of Blueberry Brigitta are particularly suitable for freezing.

Tubers are ideal for containers making a larger plant in the first year than plug plants or growing from seed. From February start begonia tubers off in well-drained moist compost in a warm frost-free position in bright light. When planting begonia tubers position them just below the compost surface with the indented side facing upwards. When begonia plants are well grown & all risk of frost has passed gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days before planting them in their final positions. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds.
Feed & water plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water as this will cause new flower buds to drop. Deadhead faded blooms regularly to encourage more vibrant begonia flowers to be produced & to extend the flowering period. At the end of the growing season the leaves & stems will yellow & fall off naturally. Reduce watering to prevent begonia plants from rotting at this stage. When the stems have all dropped away dig out the tubers. Clean & dry them before storing them away in peat or sand at 7-15
