20/20 PowderHull is the
result of 2 years of
design, prototyping and
testing new variations of
twin hull designs to draw
out more refined
floatation through base

step was to pull the hull
outline back from the
very tips of the board,
allowing the base to
return to a more
conventional surface
profile needed for
popping off jumps and
holding onto backseat
landings or high-speed

a powder board, it was
always going to be fully
directional, great for
charging but not too hot
for those big back
country kickers spins
where what you really
need is a twin. Well,
thanks to some creative
thinking and taking
inspiration from other
sports, Yes finally
found a way to get the
float of a powder board
out of a true twin shape.
By adapting the
hydroplaning hull
principal from surfing,
Yes has managed to get
lift and float, without
the need for volume in
the nose. This has opened
up a whole new world of
possibilities for
backcountry snowboarding

into the backcountry,

twin tipped shape. This

centred stance, it’s

This creates two
distinctive concave
zones, at both the nose

channel snow and give the

As soon as Yes introduced
their ground-breaking
Powder Hull technology in
the 20/20, it was always
a case of when, not if,
that they were going to
add it to the 420. Well
they have, but instead
of just adding it onto
the standard 420 they
went and totally
redesigned the whole
board, ensuring that the
420 PH becomes the
benchmark for short
performance powder
focused snowboards.So,
what have they done?
Well, the best place to
start is with the unique
Powder Hull design. By
creating what could be
described as a catamaran
style scoop in the front
of the board, Yes have
managed to channel snow
down and under the nose
giving a level of lift at
the front that is nothing
short of miraculous.
Then, by replicating the
same shape at the tail,
albeit with a smaller
profile, you get the
opposite effect. By
blowing the snow out you
get sink at the back of
the board resulting in a
ride that feels like
you're floating on
air.So, now you have all
this extra lift, you
really don't need that
ultra-wide platform as
the standard 420,
enabling Yes to pull in

OverviewThe 420 is
inspired by surfboard
shaper Steve Lis, and
the 420 revolution that
occurred when kneeboards
influenced surfboard
design. Working off the
theory that riding Powder
is all about flotation,
it, therefore, makes
sense that it’s the
displacement of a
board’s volume that is
key rather than length.
So, by punching out the
waist width and
drastically chopping the
length, the 420 retains
the surface area of a
larger board, therefore
displacing the same
volume of snow for a much
shorter length. The 148,
for example, has the
same circumference and
base surface as a
traditional 160, but as
its mass is located much
closer to your feet, it
results in a far more
manoeuvrable board. A
light taper (12mm) helps
keep the nose up without
losing the tail’s
ability to hold in
hard-pack. Stance is only
slightly set back from

the difference in nose

base material. So, while
the heating and extrusion
process has softened it
slightly, it’s still
much harder than true
