This biodegradable rain poncho is made out of a bioplastic derived from potato starch. It was manufactured under the premise of finding sustainable solutions for everyday products.
Bioplastics are plastics derived from renewable biomass, in this case from potatoes. Over 20 varieties of French potatoes have been used to manufacture these rain ponchos.
The potatoes are processed in Germany in order to obtain the starch, & then the potato starch is used to make bioplastic resin, which is then used to manufacture the bioplastic film in Spain.
Because it is made out of vegetable matter, the rain poncho has a lower impact on climate change than plastics derived from petroleum based products (plus, a lot less energy is used to produce them). They are non-toxic & non-pollutant.
Once you’ve used one for all its worth, you can plan it. The rain poncho has a little pocket full of a seeds. The potato starch will act as a fertilizer to help those seeds grow. So all you have to do when you no longer want it is bury it.
The rain ponchos are 100% compostable, biodegradable, recyclable &, of course, reusable.
