N = Natural G = Golden A = Ash M = Mahogany C = Copper R=Red I=Iridescent (9R - should be labeled a 5R - treat like a "5"- i.e. depth of color) Color Selection 1 = darkest------------------------------------------------------10 = lightest The "Intense" & "Illusion*" colours are no different to the other colours [*I-9.31: I = Illusion, 1st no: 9=darkness/lightness(so same pitch as 9N) & ask us about 2nd/3rd nos.] SELECTING CORRECT COLOR Darker Can go dark as you like. If in doubt choosing between 2 colors, opt for the lighter color. Lighter Can only lighten 1 or 2 numbers (on color chart) in one application, e.g. if person's
hair color is a 6N, then should not use a colorant lighter than an 8N, 8C or 8G. If person is very grey or white - best to avoid 10N & 10A (unless mixed with other colors) as they are too light to produce a significant color change. Covering Grey - may need to apply for up to 40 minutes (for areas that are very resistant to color - massage the area for full 40 minutes) Select color from chart nearest to person's own color (will usually be from the Natural colors). If in doubt, select lighter color. However, can recommend the customer goes for an even lighter color - as a lighter shade is much more flattering against ageing skin & grey hair re-growth is less obvious against a lighter overall hair color. Ash Colors - not to be used on their own unless want to tone down hair color
i.e. if too yellow, orange, brassy, golden, reddish. Otherwise only to be used as "mixer" colors. USING NATURTINT PERMANENT HAIR COLORANT In each box of hair dye there is a small bottle that contains the actual hair colorant and a larger bottle that contains the color developer. Must always mix them in equal amounts. Need not use whole box each time you use Naturtint hair color e.g. - if you are just touching up your roots or patches of grey - if you have short hair - if you are mixing different colors In a separate plastic/glass bowl, just mix up the amount of colorant and color developer that you require, leaving the remaining colorant and color developer separately in their own individual bottles with their tops on and they will both keep for several months. MIXING COLORS Do
Strand Test - using droplets of the colorants and their respective color developers, prepare a mixture of the different colors and place hair strands in it. Must use color developer from each of the boxes of color being mixed and not just the developer from one box, as they differ in content. Once the correct proportions have been established (usually 50:50), prepare enough to cover the hair in question. Most common mixtures: When using Natural colors, if tend to go too red, golden, brassy, yellow then mix in equal amounts of an Ash color. With 6N, 7N, 8N - use 8A OR with 9N or 10N - use 10A. Only mix Ash colors with Natural & Golden colors. For a more beige look (popular with older customers)- use 2/3 10A & 1/3 of 9N. To tone down Mahogany colors - 4M, 5M or 7M - mix with
similar number of a Natural color. To mellow Coppers - 7C or 8C - mix with similar number of a Natural color. *Naturtint Reflex Shine-on Rinses contain no Ammonia, Resorcinol, Peroxide or PPD (para-phenylenediamines) 10 colours available. NATURE'S DREAM HELPLINE - 0845 601 8129 Naturtint Top Tips Selecting the correct shade Naturtint uses the same numbering system as most salon & mainstream brands. The higher the number the lighter the colour e.g. 1 = darkest---- 10 = lightest. The letter after the number tells you what tone is in the shade N = Natural G = Golden A = Ash M = Mahogany C = Copper R = Red I = Iridescent The "Intense" & "Illusion" colours are no different to the other shades, they are just ranges that were launched at
a later date. When selecting a colour try and match your natural or darkest shade from the colour chart (This will usually be from the Natural section). From this shade you can go 2 shades lighter, add a tone or go darker. (As Naturtint is a less chemical dye it struggles to lighten the hair more than two shades at a time but you can go as dark as you like) If in doubt choosing between two shades, opt for the lighter as it is more flattering against ageing skin & grey re-growth is less obvious. It is very easy to change from using a mainstream brand to using Naturtint, just choose a similar shade and carry out a skin & strand test before use, (It is often better to start with a Natural tone as this will ensure you are getting a good base). Avoid using Naturtint for 6-8 weeks after
using a henna based product and always carry out a strand test. Unfortunately as henna can be very persistent on the hair, it can affect colour results. Skin test It is VERY IMPORTANT to carry out a skin test and a test should be carried out EVERY TIME the hair is coloured. To carry out a skin test just mix up a small amount of colour and developer in a glass or plastic bowl until totally blended. (Keep the unused colour and developer in their separate bottles with the lids on tightly). Apply a small amount of the mixture to a clean patch of skin behind the ear and on the inside of the elbow. Once dried, repeat the process twice more. Leave the mixture untouched for 48 - 72 hours. If no skin irritation is experienced after that length of time, such as swelling, redness,
itching, burning, eczemas, etc then you can proceed to use Naturtint. OTHERWISE, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. Strand test In order to determine you have chosen the correct shade and know the development time required to achieve it, simply carry out a strand test. Cut out a few strands of hair (enough so that the colour of the hair is visible) and add to the remaining mixture from the skin test, provided the mixture is used straight away. The hair will then need to process for a minimum of 20 minutes and maximum of 40 minutes for resistant grey hair. (You may need to do a few strand tests with different timings to ensure the best result). Once hair is processed, remove from the bowl and rinse until the water runs clear, leave hair to dry and hold up against your current colour.
This is a better way to judge the final colour. Remember to make note of the final development time. Application To avoid colour staining the skin apply a thin layer of Vaseline or barrier cream to the hair line To mix the colour simply tip the colorant into the developer bottle and shake for 2 minutes, alternatively tip both bottles into a glass or plastic bowl and mix thoroughly with an applicator brush. (The colorant and developer always need to be mixed in equal parts). Always ensure the hair is dry and free from any styling products before the hair is coloured as these will act as a barrier and can affect the final result. You need not use whole box each time you colour your hair if ; - you are just touching up your roots or patches of grey - you have short hair - you are
mixing different colours together Just mix up the amount of colorant and developer needed in a separate glass or plastic bowl, leaving the remaining colorant and developer in their own individual bottles with their tops on and they will both keep for several months. To apply the colour, section the hair and apply directly to the roots. Work all the mixture thoroughly and evenly through the hair, from roots to tips. (When using Naturtint for the first time it is advisable to colour the whole head as this will ensure you get a uniform base). Once the hair is completely covered, process for the desired length of time. Whilst the hair is processing gently massage the colour into the hair and move it around lifting the hair up using a tail comb to let the air get to the roots. When
the processing time is up dampen the hair and lather up massaging around the hair line to ensure all the colour is removed from the skin. Once lathered, shampoo the hair using a gentle shampoo for coloured hair and condition with half the Nutrideep Multiplier that is in the box and leave for 5-10 minutes. (Leave the remaining Nutrideep Multiplier for use 2 weeks later. This will help with the condition and colour of the hair). Then dry and style the hair as normal. Colouring hair next time Often people will colour their hair every 4-6 weeks depending on how obvious their roots have become. It is better to colour the roots only and when needed comb the colour through to the ends of the hair to refresh it. As often the ends of the hair can become over processed by being re-coloured
every time. If you want to refresh the previously coloured hair but don't want to over process the hair then the Reflex semi-permanent is a gentle alternative provided the shade is similar. To help maintain the colour always use gentle shampoos and conditioners for coloured hair e.g Naturtint Matisse. Always avoid medicated shampoos and strong shampoos as these will strip the colour from the hair. Naturtint Tips for Grey coverage Before colouring the hair ensure all hair products have been thoroughly washed out of the hair and it is completely dry. Ensure the shampoo used is free of silicones (often these shampoos appear pearly and shiney, so choose a clear shampoo as silicones will coat the hair in plastic and act as a barrier). All Naturtint shades will cover 100% grey but for
best results and for a good uniform base use a Natural tone first, you can then either use a fashion/different tone at a later date or continue with the Natural shade, (fashion tones can often appear lighter and brighter on grey or white hair if applied without using Natural tone first). Often if hair is more pepper/salt, coverage can be better if the shade chosen is a little darker than normal. On subsequent occasions, to avoid the ends of the hair becoming too dark & over processed, only re-apply to the roots (unless the colour on the length of the hair needs refreshing). Apply colour to the grey hair first massaging it well into the hair, keeping it warm but also letting the air get to the hair. Apply mixture straight away & allow the colour to develop for the full 40 minutes
processing time. (But no longer as the development process is completed after 40 mins) In the case of very stubborn grey hair you can alter the proportion of the mixture of color developer and colorant by discarding 25% of the colour developer before adding the colorant. In this proportion, you will continue the colour process as normal except avoid applying the mixture to the ends until the final 5 minutes. For stubborn dark grey hair Mix 2 capfuls of colorant with 1 capful of mineral water. Apply the mixture to strong or grey hair (for example around the temples) and leave for 10 minutes. Afterwards, without washing, apply the remaining colorant mixed with equal amounts of colour developer (therefore discard 2 capfuls of developer) and leave on for 20 minutes. For stubborn light
grey hair Soak some cotton wool with 2-3 capfuls of developer. Massage into area of grey hair for 5-10 minutes. Then proceed with normal colouring without rinsing the previously treated area. (By doing this the pores of the hair will already be open and allow the colour into the hair more easily). When the colouring process is complete, rinse with warm water, wash with shampoo, massage with conditioner and rinse thoroughly with water again.
