Describing a flower as 'clever' might seem fanciful, but our yellow potted cymbidium is more than just a pretty face. Or at least the organic original is. This member of the Orchidaceae genus shows a certain genius when it comes to pollination. You see the lower lip of the flower invites an insect to l&. Its weight causes the lip to spring up, partially trapping the visitor. It escapes by crawling backwards out of a narrow gap & in doing so brushes against the stigma which it pollinates
- if it's carry pollen. Then it wriggles past the stamens, picking up pollen for another cymbidium. Our arrangement may well attract the odd bee
- that's how lifelike it is
- but entrapment & pollination are not on the agenda. Because although we strive for maximum authenticity, there are limits! Presented all ready to display in a leaf-lined globe vase.
