Madonna lilies (Lililium candidium if we're being formal) have been cultivated around the Eastern Mediterranean for two, maybe three thousand years. Because they were traditionally associated with purity & virtue, Renaissance artists often included them in paintings of the Virgin Mary
- hence the name. In addition, an oil extracted from Madonna lilies was widely used in the distillation of perfume. It's quite possible that the Mona Lisa dabbed a drop or two behind her ears before sitting for Leonardo Da Vinci. Be that as it may, what you can be sure of is the effect this exquisitely elegant arrangement will have on its surroundings. As the focal point to a room, a tablecentre or in a window (remember Bloom flowers won't wilt in strong sunlight) it's the epitome of grace, composure & classic style.
