Since Saxon times people have decorated their homes with greenery at Christmas. It was partly to do with left-over beliefs from the pagan past but also because evergreens & red holly berries were the only splashes of colour in a monochrome landscape. Today of course we have tinsel & crepe paper in a whole rainbow display, yet there's something wonderfully evocative about 'decking the halls with boughs of holly'
- or fir or pine. Which is why this berry & pine wreath is so popular. Perhaps it awakens a sort of race memory of times long past. Or perhaps it's just that Christmas is the best time of the year for keeping traditions alive.
