It's no secret that red roses mean true love. But in floriology - that's the language of flowers - there are many meanings that are secret but can now be revealed - word by word, flower by flower. Yellow roses, for instance, mean joy and friendship and are relative latecomers to the floriological lexicon. You see for hundreds of years roses were white, pink or red. Then, in the 19th century Victorian plant hunters discovered yellow tea roses in China, along with a host of other wonderful colours and shades. Brought back to England, these new roses swept all before them and florists couldn't keep up with demand.
