Rudbeckia or Coneflowers are a group of much admired & well-utilise late summer to autumn flowering herbaceous perennials. Noted for their 'cones' in the centre of the flower; these are often black & contrast well with the typically bright yellow petals.
Noticeably different from most other Rudbeckia having curved petals reminiscent of a straw or quill, but otherwise true to the group being yellow petaled & having a black 'cone'. Flowers appear roughly two weeks later than most cultivars & species further extending the season.
Rudbeckia ' Henry Eilers' was named after the gentleman that discovered it, growing as it was in an untouched, railway edged, prairie in Illinois USA.
Grow in full sun in a well-drained soil. This variety responds well to soil improvement, which will encourage better flowering. Associates well with grasses & other late summer plants like Sedum, Echinacea, Asters, Persicaria amplexicaulis types, Monarda & Phygelius.
