One of the much sought after winter plants, the scent & beauty of Edgeworthia is something that once seen, is never forgotten.
Unusual looking deciduous shrub with fleshy stems & roots. In time, the branches get covered with a thin papery bark. Originating from China & the Himilayas, it is an excellent garden plant given the correct conditions. Like Daphne species & cultivars, it does best given the following;
Well drained, loamy soil.
Best in the ground rather than a pot.
Sun, or better still dappled shade, but not a dark spot.
Avoid cold winds.
Avoid frost pockets. It is reliably hardy to about -5°C.
It may be hard or even impossible to provide all of these conditions & sensible judgement should be made on where best to position it in your garden to give it the best chance of quick establishment.
Once established, it is a delightful plant with blue-green willowy leaves during the summer & deliciously scented orange-yellow flowers on the tips of stems during the autumn & winter.
A real showstopper, this is a plant that will definitely impress anyone who sees it.
Supplied in 12 litre pots & in limited supply, these plants are already 40-60cm tall & have multiple stems.
Height in 5-10 years 1-1.5m tall & wide.
