Having recently turned his hand to the art of print making, Gjoen creates images that are full of startling beauty as well as a profundity of thought: his art explores the interaction between power & fragility, juxtaposing the two states for maximum conceptual effect. Against an ice-white background, ‘Sèvres Grenade’ depicts a perfectly formed hand grenade, crafted from Sèvres porcelain
- an eighteenth century porcelain manufacturer, hailing from the French commune of the same name. Greek frieze patterns in blue, white, & gold lend a decadent feel, highlighting the stark contrast between natural beauty & human violence. Brilliantly iconic ‘Sèvres Grenade’ is a triumph of contemporary print making.
