Italian-born artist Karenina Fabrizzi draws on the traditional fairytale illustration to create antique-inspired works of art. Her paintings combine heirloom portraiture with classical floral detail, merging the ordinary with the fantastic, for a rich, dreamlike aesthetic. ‘ Red Woman (Part Two)’ recalls the eighteenth century portrait miniature, as the profile of a woman is set against a background of soft, dove-grey. Blurring the line between the familiar & the uncanny, Fabrizzi covers the silhouette with delicate pink flowers, blossoming against ochre-coloured leaves. At once beautiful & dark, ‘ Red Woman (Part Two)’ is the stuff of bygone treasures: a cult collectible in the making. This work is DNA tagged & Certified by Tagsmart.
