Contemporary artist Becky Allen explores the meditative potentialities of drawing as a form of release & catharsis. Attuned to spatial rhythms, Allen’s work channels the energy of repetition, transforming the artificial mark into a vision of organic growth. ‘ Descent (White)’ depicts a series of fine lines, set into a softly waved, abstract shape which seems to ooze from the edge of the print. Formed form a series of interconnected, black links which merge together into a grid-like structure, each tiny mark to become an integral part of the mass, while the subtle play of light & shade adds a sense of natural flow, creating a pulsating rhythm that courses through the gentle abstraction. Bewitchingly beautiful, ‘ Descent (White)’ powerfully captures the patterns of the natural world through the artifice of illustration.
