Painting (I painted this study in preparation for a larger painting, Bedgebury Pinetum. Near where I live in Kent is a National Pinetum, a spacious area filled with amazing trees of all kinds & a lake where there are lilies in summer. The bank is quite abrupt & looking into the water gives lovely reflections of overhanging trees but at the same time rocks are visible underneath the surface of the water. This is a composition painted to show these different levels that come into view, the sky & clouds above, the trees reflected below, the actual surface of the water with its lilies, & then also the different world below the surface, rocks, reeds etc. It is loosely painted mainly using a palette knife.) 60 × 60 × 1.5 cm (unframed) / 60 × 60 cm (actual image size)
