Some of the most heroic manoeuvres ever undertaken in the air were performed by the pilots who took to the skies during the Second World War. The men who undertook these impressive feats of bravery not only made an invaluable contribution to Britain’s war effort, but also mastered a range of impressive techniques which are still in use today. This experience is a chance to experience a taste of what it is like to fly a plane with a mission in mind, taking on the challenge of locating & reconnoitring two locations in order to be able to report back. The qualified instructor will provide some local background & explain the vital role the air force played in during the war & how the pilots managed to make such a huge difference to the war effort. This 30-minute lesson is a chance to find out what the controls of an aircraft do, how to manoeuvre a plane in the air & discover the magic of flying. The day will start with a welcome & safety briefing before heading out to look around the plane & learning more about the controls & how they move the plane. This is also the perfect opportunity for a photo & friends & family are welcome to come along & capture the moment. Then, it’s time to get into the plane & learn about taxiing as well as how to start the plane & take off. The instructor will talk the guest through the controls as they take off & hand over the job of flying as they cruise around the local area. They will be given two location to find & explore from above in order to report back to base. The instructor will explain & demonstrate how to land the plane before heading back inside for a debrief to ascertain whether the mission has been a success. Then the guest will be issued with a certificate of completion & a mission pack which contains details of the airfield’s history as an RAF base which was used in World War 2.
